Guided Setup

In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, getting robust security up and running quickly is essential. WEDOS Protection is designed with an intuitive, easy setup process that minimizes downtime and technical complexity—so you can focus on your core business while enjoying top-notch cybersecurity features like DDoS protection and 24/7 traffic monitoring. You don’t have to change web hosting or migrate any data. Integration is easy and it only takes a few minutes to activate the service. Here’s how you can get started in just three simple steps:

Step 1: Login to Your Customer Account

  • What to Do:
Start by logging into your customer account or registering if you’re new.
  • How to Access:
Visit client.wedos.global or simply click the Protect My Website Now button in the service plan.
  • Why It Matters:
This first step gives you access to the centralized management portal, where you can initiate and monitor your domain’s protection setup.

Step 2: Add Your Domain

  • What to Do:
Once logged in, navigate to the main menu and select the WEDOS GProtection (WP) section, then click on Domains.
  • How to Access:
Click the Add Domain button and enter the domain name you wish to protect.
  • Additional Help:
For detailed instructions, please refer to our setup guidelines.
  • Why It Matters:
Adding your domain is a straightforward process that prepares your site for the advanced security measures that follow.

Step 3: DNS Configuration

After adding your domain, the system will prompt you to choose one of two DNS configuration options:

  • WEDOS NS (Recommended):
If you choose this option, your domain will use WEDOS’ DNS servers (NSSET). In this case, WEDOS Protection will automatically configure your domain’s DNS records, ensuring a quick and error-free setup.
  • Custom NS (At Your Own Risk – read more below):
If you opt to use another provider’s DNS servers, you will need to manually update your DNS settings. This involves adding the required CNAME records in your DNS administration panel as specified in the WEDOS Protection system. Common Issues with Custom NS:
    • Incomplete CNAME Record:
A frequent error is that the DNS administration may display a red cross, indicating a misconfiguration. This is often due to an incomplete copy of the CNAME record—such as missing the first or last character. We recommend double-checking the DNS entry you configured against the exact record shown in the WEDOS Protection interface.
    • Incorrect Traffic Routing:
Another common issue occurs when traffic is not directed to the correct IP address. Ensure that your DNS records are pointing to the IP provided by WEDOS. You can find the correct IP address on the main page of the WEDOS Protection administration area.

Verification Process:
Once you complete the DNS setup—whether automatically via WEDOS NS or manually via Custom NS—the system will verify that your DNS records are correctly configured. This verification process may take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on DNS propagation.

Outcome:
After successful verification, your domain will be fully protected by WEDOS Protection. This setup ensures that advanced security features, including robust DDoS mitigation and 24/7 traffic monitoring, are immediately in place.

This detailed guidance ensures that you’re well-prepared for both DNS configuration options and helps you avoid common pitfalls when opting for the Custom NS approach.

Custom NS (At Your Own Risk) – Understanding the Risk

When you opt for the Custom NS option, it’s important to understand how your DNS provider’s capabilities can affect the security and availability of your site during high-traffic or attack scenarios.

If Your DNS Provider Supports ANAME/Alias/CNAME Flattening:

  • Automated Handling:
Providers that support ANAME (also known as alias or CNAME Flattening) allow our system to automatically manage DNS changes and load balancing during heavy attacks.
  • No Additional Risk:
With these features in place, any required adjustments are handled seamlessly by the system, ensuring continuous protection without manual intervention.

If Your DNS Provider Does Not Support ANAME/Alias/CNAME Flattening:

  • Manual IP Configuration:
In this case, you will need to manually set the IP address provided in the WEDOS Protection administration panel in your DNS settings.
  • Risk During High-Volume Attacks:
During significant attacks, our security system might need to change the IP address to better mitigate the threat. Since the IP is manually configured on your end, such changes may lead to temporary downtime if the DNS records are not updated promptly.
  • What to Watch Out For:
    • DNS Propagation Delays: Manual changes can take time to propagate, during which your website may experience reduced availability.
    • Configuration Errors: Ensure that the IP address is copied correctly from the WEDOS Protection administration panel. Even a minor error—such as a missing character—can trigger warnings (e.g., a red cross indicator) or cause misrouting of traffic.

Our Recommendation:

Before opting for the Custom NS configuration, we advise checking with your DNS provider to see if they support ANAME, alias, or CNAME Flattening. This feature significantly reduces the risk associated with manual IP configuration by allowing automatic adjustments during high-stress events.

By understanding these options and their implications, you can choose the setup that best suits your needs while being fully aware of the potential risks involved.
