A million readers a month.
And it still wasn't enough.

Přemysl Vaculík runs Dotekomanie.cz, one of the most visited technology magazines in the Czech Republic, with roughly a million visitors a month. He's its founder, editor-in-chief, and lead developer.

As traffic grew, the site relied for years on the biggest name in the market, the American company Cloudflare. Protection against massive DDoS attacks worked reliably. But smaller attacks kept getting through, and individual parts of the website repeatedly stopped working.

Given the sheer size of the company, Cloudflare isn't able to address smaller issues individually. That's why Dotekomanie decided to try WEDOS Protection.

Two expensive paths, before a third option appeared

Dotekomanie first considered solving the situation by moving to significantly more robust, and more expensive, infrastructure than ordinary web hosting.

In the end, the owner decided to try WEDOS Protection. The result: the number of requests reaching the origin server dropped in a single month from 27,795,270 to 16,325,288 — a 41% reduction.

Response-time tests on production servers showed an 82% improvement in page-loading time. The average website response time dropped from 752 ms to 135 ms.

Website speed matters to readers and to Google

Dotekomanie's readers are modern technology enthusiasts who expect speed and simplicity, whether on their phone or on the web. They want instant access to information and smooth navigation without unnecessary friction.

Loading speed and UX quality are also among the main factors Google weighs when ranking search results. For an online magazine, a higher SERP position means more organic traffic and more regular readers.

Support in Czech, fast and personal

Přemysl Vaculík values being able to reach WEDOS support quickly and in Czech, something that wasn't possible with the American Cloudflare.

As a global player focused mainly on large enterprise clients, Cloudflare didn't offer effective communication or fast problem-solving. In critical situations, Dotekomanie often had to rely solely on community forums — far from ideal in the moment.
